Understanding Search EnginesSearch Engines

Lexiconnect has a significant understanding of search engines. Google has been dominant in the UK search market for many years now and during 2011 Google achieved an unprecedented 92% market share of all searches conducted by UK Internet users. Although Google is increasing its dominance within search, search engines overall are becoming less of a percentage as a source of traffic for websites. Search Engines have historically accounted for around 40% of visits to all websites but the most recent figures to all websites show that search accounts for around 35% of all traffic delivered to websites during 2011.

The Big 3 Search Engines - Google, Yahoo & Bing

The leading search engines in the UK are Google, Yahoo and Bing. Globally the leading search engines change for a number of different reasons. Russia is the eighth largest market of Internet users, and Google is playing in second place to a search engine called Yandex.ru, which is currently the main search engine in Russia with well over half of the market share. The situation is similar in China where Google is also in second place to a search engine called Baidu.com.

  • Google - 90%
  • Yahoo - 5%
  • Bing - 3%
  • Others - 2%
